Organising Secretary of Operative Stonemason’s Society with annual salary of £20.  Society had only 35 financial members when he joined, substantially increased membership during term of office. 1908-1918, General Secretary Local Government Employees Union, taking ‘active part in building up one of the most successful Labor combinations in the South Pacific’.
