John Wallace Auld (1908–1952)

Quite a gloom passed over the township of Merton, when the death of a well known identity John Wallace Auld, became known. The deceased was the second son of Rose and the late William identities of Merton in the early ??? where deceased was born and educated. The late John Auld married Sylvia Masterton in 1931, his first wife pre-deceasing him ??? years ago, and there were three children of the union. His second marriage was to Miss Evelyn Schumann, Rushworth, and there were ?? children of the union. The late Mr Auld was well known and highly respected. He took a very keen interest in sport, and excelled in ??? and tennis. During his 16 years as a resident of Merton he made many friends, as borne out by the attendance at the funeral. Numerous tributes were received from friends in the district. He leaves to mourn his loss a widow, three sons — Wallace, Max and Leonard — a mother, and one brother to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. A service was held in the Church of England, Rushworth, prior to the remains being interred in Rushworth cemetery.
