William (Gil) Bodsworth, an active communist since the nineteen twenties, died last week aged 81.
Gil was a lifelong member of the Timber Workers Union, including 15 years as President. He was one of the first communists elected as a delegate to the Victorian Trades Hall Council.
During the depression years, Gil helped form the Unemployed Workers Movement and was one of its leading activists. He was arrested several times during the fight to have the dole introduced, being badly bashed by police and receiving stiff jail sentences.
Tribune extends condolences to Gil's wife, Gladys, and to other members of the family.
This person appears as a part of the Biographical Register of the Australian Labour Movement, 1788-1975. [View Article]
