There are very many in the Central West who will hear with regret that Mr Alfred Brown passed away recently. I heard of his death quite casually; it happened at Ulkinbah, a station in the desert some 90 miles or so east of Aramac. He had gone there in charge of sheep from Hillview. For some time past he had been complaining of not being too well, and the end came just after the sheep were delivered. Through some red tape business I hear the body of the unfortunate man was left undisturbed for five or six days. I understand that Mr R. Bow, secretary of the A.W.U, has taken the matter up. Alf, as he was generally called, was an old hand out here, probably 35 years or more. He was a delegate to the meeting in Blackall in 1886, when the A.W.U. was first formed in the Central West. He was one of those who went to St. Helena in 1891 as a result of the strike that year. After he came out he returned to the West, and followed shearing and station work. He was a fine fellow, and held in high respect by all who knew him. I believe he has relatives in Sydney.
