Bye, George (1855–1935)

from Mercury (Hobart)

This entry is from Obituaries Australia

George Bye (80) was found dead at Blackwood Creek, near Bracknell, yesterday. He left home in apparent good health at 9 a.m. for a walk around his property. About two hours late his 16-year-old daughter, Sheila Bye, found him lying alongside the track and against a fence not far from the homestead. He was dead. An inquest will be opened this morning at Blackwood Creek.

Mr. Bye was a pioneer of the Blackwood Creek district, and was for a number of years a councillor of the Bishopsbourne Ward in the Longford Council. He was also a justice of the peace, and a prominent settler in the district. For many years in his earlier life he was a responsible employee of the late Mr. Basil Archer, of Woodside, Cressy, and was an authority on live stock.

The funeral will take place tomorrow at Cressy.
