George Hayes (1883–1954)

Mr. George Hayes, former secretary of the Operative Bakers' Society and a prominent member of the Labor party, died in the Royal Melbourne Hospital yesterday after a long illness.
Mr. Hayes, who was 71, was an official of the society for 35 years—26 years as assistant secretary.
He was also a past president of the Victorian Labor party and Melbourne Trades Hall Council.
Mr. Hayes, who recently resigned as secretary of the bakers' society, leaves a widow, three sons and a married daughter. One of the sons is Mr. Gil Hayes, State secretary of the Boot Trades Union.
The funeral will leave the parlors of R. Robson, 639 Brunswick Street, North Fitzroy, for the Fawkner cemetery, after a service at 11.15 a.m., on Friday.
