Andrew Irwin, also known as Andrew Irvine (1864-), shearer and gaoled trade unionist

Birth: 1864 in New South Wales. Marriage: unknown. Death: unknown. Religion: Presbyterian. 

  • Lived with his family in New South Wales but sheared regularly in Queensland.
  • Arrested on 26 May 1891 by zealous police officers and charged with setting a fire on Robert Christison’s Lammermoor station, near Hughenden. At Townsville on 4 June 1891 was convicted of arson and sentenced by Judge Cooper to seven years penal servitude.
  • Prison records describe him as a shearer, native of New South Wales, able to read and write, aged 27, of stout build, 5 feet 10 ¾ inches (179 cm) tall, with a fresh complexion, brown hair and grey eyes.
  • In response to his petition for mercy, he was discharged by special remission on 16 July 1893.
