Mr. Patrick Joseph Loughnan, 85 years, a former trade union leader, died in a private hospital on Thursday night.

Mr. Loughnan was a member of the Shop Assistants' Union for 40 years, and for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1935 he was union organiser.

He represented the shop assistants on the Trades Hall Council for many years, and was a pioneer member of the Australian Labor party.

The funeral will leave St. John's Church, East Melbourne, at 9 a.m. to-day for Melbourne General Cemetery.
