Richard Ignatius (Dick) Loughnan (1864–1947)

Mr Richard Ignatius Loughnan, a former Mayor of Richmond, died yesterday at his home, Loughnan st, Richmond, aged 88. He was one of the founders of the Australian Labour Party in Victoria, and the Builders' Labourers' Federation. He acted as campaign organiser for Mr Frank G. Tudor, the first Labour representative for Yarra. Through his activity as a member of the Criminology Society, more than 40 men were released from prison.

Mr Loughnan for mayor and a councillor for many years, and the father of Messrs Richard and Cornelius Loughnan, who were also mayors at Richmond. He leaves an adult family of four sons and one daughter.

Requiem Mass will be offered at St Ignatius' Church, Richmond, at 10 am tomorrow, and the funeral will be at Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton.
