Ellen Mulcahy (1859–1920)

This entry is from Obituaries Australia

The demise of Miss Ellen Mulcahy, which occurred suddenly on Thursduy from heart failure, is deeply regretted by a large circle of friends in North and West Melbourne, where she labored for many years in the causes of charity and patriotism. For some years Miss Mulcahy took an active interest in Labor politics, but she was unable to see eye to eye with members of the Political Labor Council, and about eight years ago she left the party. Shortly afterwards she stood against Mr. Maloney, M.P., for Melbourne, creating a favorable impression by her grasp of politics and oratorical gifts, but she was unsuccessful in her candidature. Throughout the war Miss Mulcahy was honorary secretary of the local branches of the Button Fund Committee, Comforts' Fund, Red Cross Society and Welcome Home Committee, and she performed great work on behalf of the soldiers. The funeral will take place this afternoon.
