Guildford residents were shocked on Tuesday morning to hear that Mr. Michael Joseph O'Neill had died suddenly on Monday night.

Mr. O'Neill, apparently well, was listening to a broadcast of the wrestling match, when his wife and other members of the family, were startled by his sudden collapse. The doctor was quickly called, but the sufferer passed away within a few moments, and before the doctor could reach him.

Mr. O'Neill was one of the fathers of Guildford. He had spent most of his life there, and over many years had acted as an advisor and "bush lawyer" to hundreds of people who sought him out, as a Justice of the Peace, to sign their papers. He had been suffering at times with what was thought to be indigestion but otherwise appeared always hale and hearty. He was a man of sociable disposition and had his daily chats with many folk.

For 14 years Mr. O'Neill carried on the picture show at Guildford, which building was erected by his late father. He is survived by a sorrowing wife, and the following children: Mrs. Enright (Seven Hills), Gerald (Guildford), Mrs. White (Wellington. N.S.W.), Michael and Miss Josie.

Mrs. Barrett, of Military Road, Guildford, is a sister and his brothers are: Andrew (Merrylands), William (Guildford), Roger (Auburn).

The relatives have already received messages of condolence from many friends and sympathisers.

The late Mr. O'Neill was keenly interested in politics and the affairs of this country generally. He had filled the position of president of Guildford A.L.P. In his earlier years he served as an alderman of Holroyd Council.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, at 2 p.m., for the Catholic cemetery (old portion), Rookwood, and was largely attended.
