Nelson (Jack) Teerman (1883–1939)

Mr. [Nelson] Jack Teerman, who died recently, was in the forefront of the industrial fight for many years, until he had a break down in health. He was the first secretary of Elrington Miners' Lodge, and was one of the first employees at the colliery.

In the 1928-29 lockout he took a prominent part in the fight, and was in the several marches to Rothbury.

Jack Teerman and his wife collected a good deal of clothing for the women and children of the miners during this long struggle.

Came a very severe breakdown in health, and this industrialist had to leave the front rank fighting to others. One of his last efforts was an impassioned speech at the Strand Theatre. It was apparent to those who listened that a breakdown in health was on its way.

For several years he had been a great sufferer. It was just his grit that kept him going. His fighting and sufferings are now over. May he rest in peace.
