Wilhelm Wahry, 1894, with his wife and daughter Ida Maria

Another old pioneer of Nundah Lutheran Church has been called home to his eternal rest in the person of Wilhelm Carl Wahry. He was born in Germany and immigrated to Australia with his wife, Augusta Meiers, who predeceased him in 1922. While health and strength were at an high ebb he regularly visited the house of God, but in later years when old age came upon him he could no longer wend his way to be present where the people of God meet on the Sabbath Day. He nevertheless conducted his private service in the house, carefully reading his sermon book and hymn-book on the Sunday which conveyed him in spirit to the worshipping congregation bringing its sacrifices and offerings before the throne of God. Since the death of his wife he lived with his third eldest daughter, Mrs. Albert Stegmann [Anna Louisa Maria Wahry], where he was cared for by the daughter in a very generous manner. He passed away suddenly without any one being near him on August 15th, making it all the harder for loved ones who would have liked to have spoken to and heard words from him yet before bidding farewell to this world. He reached the age of 80 years and 7 months. He leaves to mourn his loss 6 children, 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
