The funeral of Mr. William Bower left the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. E. Muller, 143 Railway street, Merriwether on Wednesday for the Presbyterian portion of Sandgate Cemetery. Rev. G. Nesbitt held services at the home and the graveside. The pallbearers were four grandsons, Messrs. R. Bower, T. Bower, J. Black, and D. Beveridge.

Mr. Bower was 77. He was born at Fifeshire (Scotland), and arrived in Australia 54 years ago. He lived for some years at Minmi and then for 42 years he worked at the Glebe Colliery. He was the Treasurer of the miners' lodge for nearly 40 years, and he had also been a member of the old delegate board. He took a prominent part during the "Bowling" strike of 1909-10. When the men's leaders were arrested, he was requested to take charge. All the books had been confiscated by the Wade Government but he continued as Acting Treasurer until the officers were released from goal. He was Chief of the Caledonian Society for a number of years, and was one time an Alderman in the local council. He leaves two sons, five daughters, 38 grand children, and 14 great-grandchildren. Three brothers also survive.

The chief mourners were Mr. and Mrs. R. Beveridge (Cardiff), Mr. and Mrs. E. Burgess (Victoria), Mr. and Mrs. J. Black (Weston), Mr. and Mrs. E. Muller (Merewether), Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Bower (Merewether), Mr. and Mrs. Ramage (Weston), and Mr. and Mrs. W. Bower (Merewether).
