There passed away at Maryborough last Saturday an old identity of Torbanlea, Mr. John Madders. He was born at Oakhampton, Devonshire. When he came out to Australia, he landed at Maryborough in the sailing boat, 'Scottish Hero.' He followed the occupation of a coal miner, working for two years at Gretna, Maitland, N.S.W, for 12 years in the Bluff. North Queensland, and for the last 50 years at Torbanlea.
He was predeceased by his wife about 12 months ago. He leaves six daughters and six sons: Mrs. V. Ross (Burrum), Mrs. D. Kerr, Mrs. J. Kerr. Mrs. S. Allan, Mrs. A Taylor (Torbanlea). Mrs. H. Linde (Booval) and Messrs. James, William, Dave, Thomas, Robert and George Madders (Torbanlea). The funeral moved from the Torbanlea Methodist Church yesterday afternoon. The Rev. A. H. Hughes held service at the church and graveside.
